In Roots you see the portrait of a woman, with the famous Amsterdam canal houses layered across her face. It shows how the place where you come from is always a part of you, wherever life takes you. This artwork is about identity, a sense of belonging, and the strength that comes from knowing your background.
For me this is a very personal piece. I lived in Amsterdam until I was about forty, and that city has been a big part of my life. Wherever I go and whatever I do, Amsterdam is always with me. I know the streets and the different neighbourhoods so well, yet every time I visit there is something new to discover.
All those feelings come together in this work. The layers of the canal houses show how your origin always stays with you, no matter where you go. The flowers around her face stand for growth and for the memories that shape who you are today.
This work is a tribute to the city that shaped me into who I am, and at the same time an invitation for you to think about your own roots. Wherever you come from, you carry it with you.

Hanging Instructions
Aluminium Hanging Frame
The stylish and solid aluminium hanging frame is pre-mounted on the back of the print. This frame is included with sizes 80×120 cm and 100×150 cm.
- Easy to mount on the wall thanks to the built‑in edge of the frame
- The pre‑mounted frame is not visible from the front, making the panel appear to “float” (with a 2 cm distance) from the wall
- The print truly comes to life, creating a striking 3D effect
Hidden Hanging System
The hidden hanging system ensures your print hangs perfectly flush against the wall. This system is supplied with sizes 40×60 cm and 60×90 cm.
