My journey through Africa changed the way I see the world and myself.

This series of three portraits was born from encounters that deeply moved me, and from the breathtaking beauty I witnessed during our family travels to Kenya. Each piece portrays a powerful woman, combined with striking animal elements such as zebra stripes and majestic lions. The works reflect both the contrast and the harmony that can be found in people and in nature.

The inspiration comes from a personal connection. My uncle lived partly in the Netherlands and partly in Kenya, where he cultivated roses on a farm and exported them to Europe. We visited him with our extended family and were immersed in a completely different world. What touched me most was how much he gave back to the people around him. He built schools, dug wells, and created real opportunities for those who worked on his farm.

That experience opened my eyes. It made me aware of the beauty of Africa, but also of the sharp contrasts between wealth and poverty, comfort and survival. We brought small gifts like baby clothes, a reading glass, and a few pens. The joy these simple things brought was unforgettable.

Still, this collection is about more than memories. It is a tribute to diversity. Blonde, red-haired, dark-skinned. Beauty is not defined by background or color. It lies in who you are and in the importance of staying true to yourself.

These portraits are about inner strength. About the beauty of difference. And about the deep sense of connection that we all share, no matter where we come from
